Trip Grading

Updated: Apr 23

A grading system from Level 1 to 5 is used for Club Trips.

Macarthur District 4WD Club Inc. takes every care and precaution. Members and their guests participate in all Club Trips and activities by their own choice and thus at their own risk, and as such, no responsibility will be accepted by the Club, its Committee or the Trip Leader. The following grades are based on standard unmodified vehicles:

GRADE 1

Very easy 4WD trip - usually a social trip or scenic tour on sealed tar roads.

GRADE 2

Easy 4WD trip - to camp or venue, with very little 4WDing, mostly on forest roads or hard sand.

GRADE 3

Medium 4WD trip - Cautious driving is required in some sections, and some snatching may be required.

GRADE 4

Difficult 4WD trip - Driver experience is required for all types of terrain and recovery procedures. Some recovery gear will be required. Snatching and or winching is to be expected.

GRADE 5

Extremely difficult 4WD trip - Very experienced drivers and well-prepared vehicles. Full recovery gear is essential. Snatching, towing or winching will be required.

New financial members must attend the Club’s 'Driver Awareness' program before attending trips above Grade 2.

While it is very rare, trip leaders can refuse attendance by a member as a driver on a trip of grade 4 and above. Refusal is generally associated with limitations of the driver/vehicle for the type of terrain to be encountered on this grade of trip. Options for being a passenger are generally able to be accommodated. Please contact the Trip Leader or Driver Awareness & Environmental Officer (DAE) before departure if you have any concerns.
